Ok The Headlines Are Pissing Me Off

‘Disco Queen’ ‘The Star that launched disco was kicked off the music scene because of her disco roots’ Donna Summer was much more than the disco queen, Donna Summer defined the music voice of the 1970’s.  Her songs, her sultry voice were what drove people to her, without her there might not have been a disco movement.  And, what is ‘disco’ anyway?  Dance music?  She was the unsung hero and vast motivator of the 1970s.  I was in high school from 1978 to 1982; she was always there with a fun popular hit song; she had one after another after another.  She was different than stars of today, she didn’t seem to be a diva or any kind of show off.  She was there, she made the world a happier place and her songs were always fun.  I didn’t know then because I was too young, and no one seems to acknowledge it now, but she was a pioneer.  I can’t think of any other woman who had so much influence on the music world at that time but seemed to get no credit for it.  She was deemed ‘disco queen’ and then forgotten.  I don’t know why she wasn’t given more credit for starting a movement, for being at the center of, and defining what music was in the 1970s, and 80s somewhat.  No one gave her credit like Madonna got for an empowered woman.

Donna was like the friend that was always there, he music was every where you went.  When you bought one of her albums there were lots of good songs, she wasn’t a one hit wonder or a one hit album.  I wish I knew more feminists, or any actually.  Donna started a movement of progressive dance music which was later dubbed, and ridiculed, as disco.  I don’t see how the dance hits of the 80s were all that different.  But she deserves a huge place in history for her influence on music rather than being delegated as part of the short lived disco movement.  Donna should be recognized for her major influence, talent, and ability to make people happy.  To me, she was as influential as Madonna, The Rolling Stones, Michael Jackson.  She will be missed, but needs to be evaluated for the phenomenal change she brought to music.
